We read these stories: My Five Senses,
Aliki's Five Senses, Hear Your Heart, When It's the Last Day of
School, and What Dad's Can't Do.
We learned all about the five senses this
week! Seeing, hearing, tasting, touching, and
smelling!
We had two writing times. I hope you are
enjoying your child's writing binder! Don't stop now.. any time
they write this summer, stick it in there!
We made some special things for our
father's! Happy Father's Day!
After reading Hear Your Heart, we
used paper towel tubes to listen to each other's beating
hearts!
We sorted items by which sense we would
use most to sense them.
Math
We had to use recipes to make the
delicious fudge and Chex mix for our Open House
refreshments.
Science
We did so much with our five senses this
week!
Taste- We learned about the different
kinds of things we taste and had a taste test of salty, sweet,
sour, and bitter foods. Not many of us like the bitter baker's
chocolate!
Touch- We made a touch book with
different textured items, we made our recycled paper with Mrs.
Main (wait till you see it, it's beautiful! Thank you Mrs. Main!
It was very gooey to begin with), we used our feet only to feel
blocks in socks to try and guess what shape they were (that was
pretty silly)
Smell- We used our noses to guess what
different kinds of foods were in covered yogurt containers... we
were pretty good guessers!
Hear- We used paper towel tubes to hear
our hearts, we listened to sounds on Miss Ripstein's computer to
try to guess what they were
Sight- We made our very own binoculars
and went on a sight walk to see new and interesting things around
our school
Technology
I will hopefully get a chance to update
the website after school gets out with the Chewonki pictures. It's
been very busy here!
Other
We got to meet with our fourth grade
buddies one last time and had popsicles. We'll miss them but wish
them luck at the middle school!
We had a wonderful Community Games day
with Mrs. Hanson and Miss Rideout!
Thank you to all who attended our Open
House Tuesday! The children were so proud of all they have
accomplished this year (as am I!) and couldn't wait to share with
you!
Reminders / Important
Information:
Boy is the end of the year busy! Here is a
list of what's to come!
I have included a "short" list of 100 fun
things to do with your child this summer to keep them on their
toes for first grade. Mostly, just read, read, and read some
more... and then write, write, write!
Thank you for all of your support at home
this year. I truly love this class and will miss them!
Monday, June 19th- Last Day of
School/ Move Up Day (School dismissed at 11:00) We will be going
to the Community Playground this day as well! Parents and family
are welcome to meet us there. We will be there from 9:00-10:30. Be
sure your children wear sneakers and appropriate clothing. Also
sunblock, water, hats...
Report cards also go home this day. If
you have any questions/concerns, I will be checking my e-mail all
summer and will be in and out of the school as well.
Getting
ooey-gooey while making our recycled
paper.
Mrs. Main showed
us how to carefully pull up the screen with our wet paper on
it.
